eSIM Compatible Phones — Full Device List

Is my phone eSIM compatible?

Most smartphones released after 2018 support eSIM — but not all. Compatibility depends on your phone model, where it was purchased, and whether it’s carrier-unlocked.

Three things you need for a travel eSIM to work:

  1. Your phone has eSIM hardware (see tables below)
  2. Your phone is carrier-unlocked — phones bought outright or fully paid off are usually unlocked. Check: Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock (iPhone) or contact your carrier.
  3. You haven’t hit the eSIM profile storage limit (most phones store 8–20 profiles)

Quick check: find your EID

Dial *#06# on your phone. If you see an EID (a 32-digit number) alongside your IMEI, your phone has eSIM hardware. You can also check in Settings → General → About (iPhone) or Settings → About Phone → Status (Android).

Your EID is checked locally in your browser — never sent to our servers. This check confirms your device has eSIM hardware but cannot verify carrier lock status or regional restrictions. See the full compatibility tables above for details.

Important: China, Hong Kong & Macao exceptions

iPhones sold in mainland China use dual physical nano-SIM and have no eSIM capability (except iPhone Air and iPhone 17e). This includes iPhone 17/Pro/Pro Max, all iPhone 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, and 11 series China models.

iPhones sold in Hong Kong and Macao mostly also lack eSIM, except: iPhone 17/Pro/Pro Max (HK models got eSIM), iPhone Air, 17e, 16e, SE (2nd & 3rd gen), 13 mini, 12 mini, and XS.

If you purchased your iPhone in China, Hong Kong, or Macao, check Settings → General → About — if there’s no EID field, your phone does not support eSIM.

eSIM-only countries (no SIM tray)

Starting with iPhone 14, these countries sell eSIM-only models: United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Guam, US Virgin Islands.

Android phones with eSIM support

Important: Android eSIM support varies significantly by region and carrier. The same model name may or may not have eSIM depending on where it was purchased. Samsung devices sold in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan generally lack eSIM. Always check your device’s Settings for an EID or “Add eSIM” option before purchasing.

When eSIM won’t work even if your phone supports it

Even if your phone has eSIM hardware (an EID), a travel eSIM may not work if:

  • Your phone is carrier-locked — locked phones only accept eSIMs from the locking carrier. Contact your carrier to unlock before purchasing.
  • Your employer manages your phone (MDM) — corporate device management policies can block eSIM installation.
  • Regional firmware restrictions — some Samsung models have eSIM hardware but the regional firmware doesn’t enable it.
  • You’ve reached the eSIM profile limit — most phones store 8–20 profiles. Delete unused profiles if you can’t add more.

How to check for carrier lock (iPhone): Settings → General → About → look for “Carrier Lock.” If it says “No SIM restrictions,” you’re unlocked.

How to check for carrier lock (Android): Settings → Connections → SIM Manager. If you see “Add eSIM” or “Download SIM,” your phone is likely unlocked and eSIM-capable.

How to find your EID

iPhone

  1. Go to Settings → General → About
  2. Scroll down to find EID (below the IMEI numbers)
  3. No EID field = your iPhone model does not support eSIM

Android

  1. Go to Settings → About Phone → Status (or SIM Status)
  2. Look for EID
  3. On Samsung: Settings → About Phone → Status Information → SIM Card Status

Universal method

  1. Open the Phone/Dialer app
  2. Dial *#06#
  3. If you see a 32-digit EID alongside your IMEI(s), your phone has eSIM hardware

Before you travel

  • Unlock your phone: Contact your carrier. Most carriers unlock for free after the contract ends.
  • Download your eSIM before you fly: You need Wi-Fi or mobile data to install it.
  • Activate on arrival: Your eSIM validity starts from first data use, not from purchase.
  • Keep your primary SIM active: You can use your travel eSIM for data while keeping your home number for calls and texts.
